22 Must-Circle Nonprofit Bloggers and Resources on Google+

November 21, 2011

I joined Google+ a few months ago as an individual, but it hasn’t been until the recent launch of Google+ Pages that I began investing time in the exploring the Google+ community and tool set. Google+ is a bit more complicated than Facebook or Twitter, but already a significant source of traffic to this blog, and like most communities that get a lot of initial buzz, the growth rate of new followers is exponentially much faster during the early adoption phase. It’s definitely been worth the time investment thus far.

There are many other early adopters blazing a trail through Google+ and below are 22 that are useful to nonprofits and worthy of a Google+ Circle all their own. That said, it’s worth noting that Google+ Page admins can add other pages to their circles, but page admins can only add followers of its page to their circles. In other words, people must first add your page to their circles before you can add them to your circles. That means you’ll want to add the 22 resources listed below to your personal circles first. It also means, strategically speaking, that if you want your personal followers to grow, you’ll need to add the pages that you want to add you or the page admins have no way of adding your personal profile to their circles. Confused? No worries. It’s a new tool, a tad complex (but smart and solid), and we’re all still figuring it out. I’ll have a webinar ready for you on Google+ and Google Products by February 28. 🙂

You may also like to add Storytellers For Good to your circles – Although not a nonprofit ourselves, we tell the stories of people and organizations making a positive difference, many of which are nonprofits. And we help crowdfund many of the films we make. Storytellers For Good was founded by Cara Jones, multiple Emmy Award winning TV reporter and producer. If we can be of help we’re happy to connect.

Heather, thanks so much for including me. I really love the G+ interface, the personal nature of G+, and the ability to dig deep into topics with thoughtful conversation (not limited by 140 characters). Other nonprofit bloggers that I follow and enjoy on G+ are: Marc Pitman, Carter Gibson (he is THE expert on Google+ that I’ve found and interns at a nonprofit), Pamela Grow, Craig Newmark, Shoshana Fanizza (Audience Dev Specialists), Howard Lake (UK fundraising), David Crowley, and Kami Huyse. I’m sure there are others, but those are who I see regularly posting about nonprofit information, social media, and fundraising.
